Baird Congratulates U.S. Counterpart

February 1, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada offers sincere congratulations to John Kerry as he assumes the office of U.S. secretary of state. I look forward to working with him.

“The Canada-U.S. relationship is the closest and most prosperous of any in the world—an example to all other nations. The strong bonds of our cooperation are rooted in our shared values and interests.

“I look forward to meeting him at the earliest possible opportunity so we can continue working together in the best interests of our two countries’ citizens, including, of course, focusing on creating jobs and opportunity at a time when the global economy remains very fragile.

“I would also like to thank outgoing secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has been a great friend to me and to Canada. I wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavours.”
