Canada Working to End Violence Against Women

March 8, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today issued the following statement:

“We join Canadians from coast to coast to coast, and others around the world, in steadfast resolve against the global scourge of violence against women. Canada is committed to ending all forms of violence against women at home and abroad.

“The cases of Jyoti Singh Pandey and Malala Yousafzai are high-profile and particularly barbaric examples that have made headlines in recent months. But we must also not forget the countless other victims around the world who contend with violence, in silence and without recourse.

“Canada’s theme for International Women’s Week 2013 is Working Together: Engaging Men to End Violence Against Women. We challenge men and boys around the world to work to end violence against women and girls.

“Together, today, we pay tribute to all fighting to uphold the rights of women and girls and to those committing to end violence against them.”
