Baird Comments on Resignation of Prime Minister Fayyad

April 13, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“I was saddened and deeply disappointed to learn of the resignation of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

“Mr. Fayyad was a trusted and dedicated interlocutor and friend of Canada.

“It is my hope that he will continue to advance the cause of peace and continue to work to improve the lives of the Palestinian people.

“In my recent visit to the West Bank, I made clear to Prime Minister Fayyad and President Abbas that the Palestinian Authority needs to continue on a path of economic growth and security reforms.

“We are grateful for Prime Minister Fayyad’s service, and for his friendship to Canada.”
