Baird Strongly Condemns Attack on UN Peacekeepers in South Darfur

July 13, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada strongly condemns today’s reprehensible attack in South Darfur, which killed at least seven UNAMID peacekeepers and wounded many others.

“Canada is deeply concerned by the deteriorating security conditions in Darfur and across Sudan. This incident underscores the failure of partial peace agreements in Sudan, and the need for comprehensive solutions to Sudan’s conflicts.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims’ families and friends, and I wish a swift recovery to the injured.”
