Baird and Yelich Extend Condolences Following Train Derailment in Spain

July 25, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), today issued the following statement:

“We wish to express our heartfelt condolences and those of Canadians to the friends and families who lost loved ones in the train derailment that took place yesterday near Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This tragedy is compounded by its taking place the day before the Feast of St. James, when many festivities are planned in Santiago de Compostela.

“We would also like to wish a speedy recovery to those injured in this tragic event.”
