Canada Offers Condolences to People of Pakistan Following Severe Earthquake

September 25, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest condolences to the Pakistani people following the severe earthquake in southwest Pakistan.

“The people of Pakistan are resilient when faced with adversity, and it is our hope that they recover quickly from this devastating event.”

Canadian citizens in Pakistan requiring emergency consular assistance should contact the High Commission of Canada in Pakistan at (51) 208-6000 or toll free at 0800-00-226. Canadians in Pakistan can also contact Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada’s (DFATD’s) 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa by calling +1 613 996 8885 (collect calls are accepted where available). They can also send an email to sos@international.gc.ca.

Friends and relatives in Canada concerned for Canadian citizens whom they believe to be in the affected area should contact DFATD’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa at 613-996-8885 (collect calls accepted) or toll free at 1-800-387-3124.
