Canada Strongly Condemns Terrorist Bombing in Russia

December 29, 2013 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada strongly condemns today’s cowardly act of terrorism in Volgograd, Russia, which has killed and seriously injured many innocent civilians. We call for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to be identified and brought to justice.

“Canada reiterates our commitment to work with Russia to combat all forms of terrorism. We continue to engage Russian officials in discussions on the special security arrangements that will be in place at Olympic venues, airports, border crossings and other sensitive areas, as we approach the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.

“On behalf of all Canadians, we extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, and we wish a full recovery to the injured.”
