Canada Condemns Beirut Bombing

January 2, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today released the following statement:

“Canada condemns today’s car bomb attack in southern Beirut that killed five people. On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to express condolences to the families of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

“It is imperative that Lebanon avoid being pulled into regional conflicts. Lebanese leaders must maintain peace and security through a national dialogue and the formation of a government.

“Canada strongly condemns all attempts to destabilize Lebanon, and we stand firmly with the Lebanese people in the face of such terrorist threats.”
