Baird to Attend North American Foreign Ministers Meeting

January 14, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will travel to Washington, D.C., this week to attend the North American Foreign Ministers Meeting (NAFMM) and meet with a number of key bilateral stakeholders. The NAFMM will be hosted by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday, January 17, and will also be attended by Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs José Antonio Meade.

“The North American Foreign Ministers Meeting is a valuable opportunity for Canada, the United States and Mexico to work together to address key North American and global issues,” said Baird.

“This year’s meeting will help lay the groundwork for the North American Leaders’ Summit, to be hosted by Mexico in early 2014. We will be focusing on economic competitiveness, energy and the environment, trilateral security cooperation, regional security cooperation and global foreign policy issues.”

During his visit to the U.S. capital, Baird will engage with members of the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as administration officials, to discuss the Canada-U.S. relationship and key foreign policy priorities. He will also address senior business leaders and foreign policy experts at a luncheon hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 16.
