Canada Congratulates Libya on Destruction of Chemical Weapons

February 4, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada congratulates Libya for completing the destruction of all declared stocks of sulphur mustard agent. The destruction of these chemical munitions is a major undertaking and a significant step toward stability and security in Libya and the region.

“Canada commends the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for its efforts to rid the world of these weapons.

“Canada is pleased to have contributed $6 million to the organization to support chemical weapons destruction activities in Libya and remains committed to supporting Libya in its transition to a stable, secure, democratic state.”
