Canada Condemns Bombing in Pakistani Market

April 9, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada condemns in the strongest terms today’s bombing in a fruit market in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, which claimed the lives of at least 23 people and wounded dozens of others. We equally condemn yesterday’s bombing of a train in Balochistan that killed at least 16 people.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, as well as best wishes for speedy recoveries to those injured.

“Terrorist attacks like these highlight the need for the Pakistani government to take swift and unerring steps to bring terrorist groups to justice.

“Canada will continue to work with the people of Pakistan and our allies to help them address the challenges they face.”
