Canada Offers Condolences Following Landslide in Northern Afghanistan

May 3, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today issued the following statement concerning a landslide in Northern Afghanistan. Initial reports suggest deaths of as many as 2,000. Afghanistan has designated tomorrow as a national day of mourning:

“On behalf of Canadians, we offer our deepest sympathies to the Afghan people affected by this tragic event. The sight of hundreds of Afghans rushing to assist the impacted communities is deeply moving.

“Canada stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan during this difficult time.”
