Baird Visits Bolivia

June 5, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today concluded his first visit to Bolivia.

“I had very productive meetings with President Evo Morales, Foreign Affairs Minister David Choquehuanca and Minister of the Presidency Juan Ramón Quintana,” said Baird.

“I also had the opportunity to meet with senior government representatives to discuss priority issues for both governments, including maternal and child health, education, economic development, governance, security, responsible natural resource management and investment.”

Canada has made engagement in the Americas a priority since 2007. Development assistance is a key component of Canada’s bilateral relationship with Bolivia, focusing on securing a future for children and youth and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Baird is travelling to Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Ecuador from June 1 to June 6, 2014, to advance Canada’s engagement in the Americas.

Canada’s Strategy for Engagement in the Americas focuses on increasing mutual economic opportunity, strengthening security, advancing freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and fostering lasting relationships.
