Baird Concerned by Stalled Parliamentary Process in Iraq

July 7, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada is deeply concerned about the adjournment of Iraq’s next parliamentary session to mid-August.

“We call on parliamentarians to overcome their differences and form an inclusive new government without further delay.

“Any postponement of the parliamentary process only serves to further undermine the stability, security and unity of Iraq.

“The Iraqi people are in need and deserving of unified leadership at this critical time.”
