Baird Strongly Condemns Attack in Afghanistan’s Paktika Province

July 16, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada strongly condemns the brutal and cowardly suicide car bomb attack on a busy market in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktika province, which has killed dozens of people and injured scores more.

“Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those killed in this senseless attack, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured.

“This type of violent attack only strengthens our resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms. The next president of Afghanistan will need to govern for all Afghans and combat this type of extremism.

“Canada remains steadfast in our commitment to supporting a stable and prosperous future for all Afghans.”
