John Baird, Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, meets with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the State Department in Washington, D.C., on August 4, 2011.
This is Minister Baird's first trip to Washington in his new role and signals the importance of strong Canada-U.S. relations to both countries.
During a productive afternoon meeting, the two discussed several important files including the Keystone XL Pipeline, Libya, bilateral trade and travel, and the next steps in the Canada- U.S. Shared Border Vision initiative. Minister Baird also discussed with his U.S. counterpart several hemispheric security issues.
This is the first formal meeting between Minister Baird and Secretary Clinton. Previous meetings have been informal and held on the margins of other multilateral gatherings.
