Baird Represents Canada at 'Friends of Syria' Meeting
April 1, 2012 - Istanbul, Turkey - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird joined his counterparts from like-minded countries to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in Syria.
Baird announced a further $8.5-million for humanitarian aid and opposition assistance. In response to the ongoing violence in Syria, Canada this week imposed additional sanctions to further isolate Assad and those closest to him.
The Friends of Syria group is a show of solidarity by the international community with the people of Syria in the face of months of deadly violence by the regime toward innocent Syrian civilians.
