Baird and Clinton Make Friendly Hockey Playoff Wager

Baird and Clinton Make Friendly Hockey Playoff Wager

April 12, 2012 – Washington, D.C. - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, after finishing the meeting with their G-8 counterparts today, quickly got down to other serious business—wagering on round one of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

Secretary Clinton, formerly a senator for New York, and Minister Baird, an Ottawa native and avid Senators fan, are putting hometown pride on the line as the Rangers and Senators begin their best-of-seven series tonight in New York.

The Harper government and the Obama administration have a history of placing friendly wagers on hockey games, most notably during the 2010 Olympic Games—which saw Canada capture gold.
