Baird Rings NASDAQ Closing Bell to Mark Canada Day Celebrations
June 29, 2012 - New York - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird marks the conclusion of a successful trip to New York City and the beginning of Canada Day celebrations by ringing the NASDAQ Stock Market Closing Bell.
Baird remarked that 46 Canadian companies are listed on NASDAQ, making Canada one of the countries with the largest number of listings on the exchange.
“Behind our individual success stories is a resilient economy—one that has earned Canada a nomination as the top destination to do business in the world by Forbes Magazine,” said Baird.
This concludes the Minister’s visit to New York, where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly at the third biennial review of the UN’s Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Baird announced that Canada is contributing up to an additional $8 million in support for capacity-building projects that aim to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation globally.
