Baird Meets with ASEAN Secretary-General Surin

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird meets with Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). They discussed North Korea, the South China Sea, education, connectivity areas, security, energy, financial services, religious freedom and multiculturalism. This year marks the 35th anniversary of formal Canada-ASEAN relations. The relationship has grown significantly since Canada first became an ASEAN dialogue partner 35 years ago and now encompasses extensive political, economic, social and cultural cooperation.
Minister Baird and Secretary-General Surin issued a joint statement at the conclusion of their meeting.
