September 21, 2012 - Ottawa - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and his Turkish counterpart, H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Turkey, address the media following their wide-ranging and constructive bilateral meeting in Ottawa.
The ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international peace and security issues—not least of all, the crisis in Syria. Turkey has accepted more than 100,000 refugees displaced by the conflict that is ravaging its neighbour. Turkey is playing, and will continue to play, a vital role in any attempt to bring about a resolution.
Baird also stressed the importance of the Canada-Turkey relationship as a way to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for both countries. He relayed his personal conviction to build upon bilateral relations that are strong and getting stronger.
