Promoting Canadian Values in Nigerian Civil Society

Baird Encourages Religious Freedom and Pluralism in Visits to Nigerian Holy Sites

October 8, 2012 - Lagos, Nigeria - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today met with representatives of several organizations working to protect and promote human rights in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. “I was impressed with the example they set in their dedication to strengthening human rights for all Nigerians,” said Baird.

The promotion and protection of human rights is an integral part of Canadian foreign policy. Canada has clearly spoken out against human rights violations. Canada will continue to work with Nigerian institutions and civil society representatives to promote freedom of religion and to stand up for human rights for all.
