November 28, 2012 - Ottawa - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today met with Villy Søvndal, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Denmark, in Ottawa to discuss engagement in Arctic matters, and a range of global issues of common interest such as the situations in Syria, Iran, and the Sahel, and Canada and Denmark’s respective roles in Afghanistan post-2014. The ministers also discussed the value of working together as like-minded nations and key Arctic partners. Canada is pleased with the progress made on the Lincoln Sea boundary. This tentative agreement lessens uncertainty and strengthens Canada’s sovereignty over the Arctic.
Both countries are founding members of the Arctic Council. Canada will assume the role of chair in 2013.
