Baird Addresses United Nations General Assembly
November 29, 2012 - New York City - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird delivers Canada's address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City to express Canada's opposition to the UN resolution to grant the Palestinians non-member observer state status in the UN.
Canada opposes this Resolution in the strongest terms because it undermines the core foundations of a decades' long commitment by the international community and the parties themselves to a two-state solution, arrived at through direct negotiations.
In his speech, Baird calls on both sides to return to the negotiating table without preconditions.
Canada has long supported efforts to bring the two sides to the bargaining table to resolve all outstanding issues, and remains committed to that objective.
