December 4, 2012 - London - Bob Dechert, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, attended a conference on freedom of religion or belief taking place at Canada House on December 3. The conference, co-hosted by Canada and the United Kingdom, promoted religious freedom as a foreign policy priority.
Commitment to religious freedom is one of several foreign policy priorities shared by Canada and the United Kingdom. In September 2012, the two countries renewed and refreshed the Canada-U.K. Joint Declaration agreed to by Prime Ministers Stephen Harper and David Cameron in September 2011. The declaration highlights the two countries’ commitment to work together to promote and protect the right to freedom of religion or belief internationally.
