Baird Addresses Asia Society of Hong Kong
March 13, 2013 - Hong Kong, China - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird delivers an address to the Asia Society of Hong Kong, in which he speaks about Canada’s deepened engagement in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Canada must take an active role in this part of the world. It’s simply not a choice; it’s not an option; it’s a national imperative.
“Canada’s trade with Asia has more than doubled in a generation, and Asian investment into Canada has grown by over 400 percent in the last two decades,” said Baird. “We are committed to creating jobs and growth, in keeping with our government’s principled foreign policy.”
This address is part of Baird’s three-day visit to Asia, his seventh as foreign minister. The trip is meant to promote Canada’s interests and project Canadian values while diversifying Canada’s trade relations in the Asia-Pacific region.
