Baird and Yelich Welcome Kosovo’s Foreign Minister
July 24, 2013 - Ottawa - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), meet with Enver Hoxhaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, who is on his first visit to Canada.
The ministers discussed the political and trade relationship between Canada and Kosovo, the recent, historic agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, Kosovo’s progress in its Euro-Atlantic integration and investment opportunities in Kosovo.
Canada welcomed the April 2013 agreement between Kosovo and Serbia to normalize relations and supports the full integration of Kosovo into international and Euro-Atlantic structures. Canada invested heavily in stabilizing Kosovo and Southeast Europe, and still contributes Canadian Forces personnel to the NATO-led Kosovo Force.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, and Canada was among the first countries to recognize it.
