Baird Meets Chilean President

August 2, 2013 - Santiago - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird meets with Sebastián Piñera, President of Chile, to discuss bilateral issues.

The bilateral relationship is of significant strategic value for Canada and Chile, evidenced by this year’s renewal of the Canada-Chile Partnership Framework. That solid framework for cooperation between both countries is anchored in shared values, a strong trade and investment relationship and extensive people-to-people ties.

Since Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s visit to Chile in 2012 and Piñera’s visit to Canada in May 2013, the Canada-Chile relationship has continued to expand and diversify. In particular, the relationship is experiencing deepening collaboration in multilateral forums and across priority sectors such as the sustainable development of minerals and metals; innovation, science and technology; education and exchanges; and the strengthening of new areas of cooperation including defence and public safety.
