Baird Highlights Canada’s Strengthened Relations with Paraguay

August 6, 2013 - Asunción, Paraguay - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird meets with Luis Federico Franco Gómez, President of Paraguay, as part of his seven-country tour of Latin America. During the meeting, Baird underscored Canada’s commitment to working with Paraguay to help increase economic opportunities, improve security and strengthen democracy in the region.

Canada and Paraguay enjoy close relations in areas of common interest such as human rights and multilateral cooperation. In 2011, Canada and Paraguay celebrated the 50th anniversary of full diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This visit represents the first official visit of a Canadian foreign affairs minister to Paraguay.
