Baird Holds Bilateral Talks with Uruguayan President

August 6, 2013 - Montevideo - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird meets with José Mujica, President of Uruguay, during his seven-country tour of Latin America. During their discussion, Baird reiterated Canada’s commitment to working with Uruguay to increase economic opportunities, improve security, strengthen institutions and foster lasting people-to-people ties in the hemisphere.

Relations between Canada and Uruguay are built upon common values and a mutual commitment to democracy, human rights, peace and security. The countries share a long history of cooperation in regional and global organizations including the UN, OAS, Summit of the Americas, OECD and WTO. Canada’s participation with Uruguay in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti is but one example of the solid tradition of collaboration in the hemisphere.
