Baird Meets Algerian Prime Minister
September 15, 2013 - Algiers, Algeria - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird (left) meets Abdelmalek Sellal, Prime Minister of Algeria, during Baird’s first official visit to Algeria. Baird used the opportunity to discuss regional security, governance and human rights, as well as to advance economic cooperation and diversify commercial relations.
Canada and Algeria have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1962. Algeria is a key partner for Canada in the fight against terrorism and one of Canada’s largest trading partners in Africa. The bilateral relationship is enhanced by the presence of many Canadian companies in Algeria and a growing Algerian-Canadian community in Canada, particularly in Quebec.
