Baird Meets Sichuan Governor
October 10, 2013 - Chengdu, China - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird meets with Wei Hong, Governor of Sichuan Province, to discuss the importance of the bilateral relationship between China and Canada.
Strengthening bilateral relations and commercial ties with China is part of the Government of Canada’s pro-trade plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.
Baird is currently in China for a series of meetings with government officials and business leaders. This year marks the 43rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and China. The relationship is also marked by extensive people-to-people ties, with more than 1.5 million persons of Chinese origin residing in Canada and more than 84,000 Chinese students studying at Canadian educational institutions in 2012.
