Baird Attends NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting
June 25, 2014 - Brussels, Belgium - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird represents Canada at the NATO foreign ministers meeting.
At the meeting, Baird underscored Canada’s commitment to working with its allies and partners to further enhance security and stability in Ukraine and the region. He also met with many of his counterparts on the margins of the meeting, including Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine’s new foreign minister.
“Together with our allies,” said Baird, “Canada is sending a clear message to President Putin: that we remain united as an alliance, resolute in our support for Ukraine, and that we will not stand by and watch as Russia continues to employ provocative and destabilizing actions. President Putin must now step up and engage in genuine negotiations with Ukraine on a peace plan to end the violence and withdraw the provocateurs, propaganda and materiel support that the Russian Federation is sponsoring inside Ukraine.”
Baird will travel to Finland and Sweden for bilateral meetings on June 26 and 27, 2014.
