Baird Opens New Canadian Offices in Hong Kong

August 6, 2014 - Hong Kong - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird attends a ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the Consulate General of Canada’s new offices.

These modern offices will play a role in deepening Canada and Hong Kong’s very strong trade and economic relations. Also taking part in the ceremony was K. S. Wong, Hong Kong’s Secretary for the Environment, and Ian Burchett, Canada’s Consul General.

“I am always struck by the dynamism and energy in Hong Kong,” said Baird. “It is a great example of how economic liberalization, commitment to the rule of law and good governance are a recipe for success.

“As a trading hub and top international financial centre, Hong Kong serves as a springboard to a wider Asia. Canada has deep people-to-people connections and an increasing number of business interests here.”
