Minister Aglukkaq Receives Gavel From Yukon Premier Pasloski
October 21, 2013 - Whitehorse, Yukon - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister for the Arctic Council, Minister of the Environment and Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, receives a gavel from Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski. The gavel was created by Yukon artist Ken Anderson to celebrate the first meeting of Senior Arctic Officials during Canada’s Arctic Council chairmanship. The meeting is taking place in Whitehorse from October 21 to 23, 2013.
Minister Aglukkaq addressed meeting delegates at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre. “It's a thrill to host this meeting in Canada’s Arctic and in the vibrant and breathtaking city of Whitehorse,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “I am strongly committed to putting the interests of those who live in the circumpolar region at the forefront of the Arctic Council agenda.”
The theme of Canada’s Arctic Council chairmanship (2013-2015) is “Development for the People of the North,” with a focus on responsible Arctic resource development, safe Arctic shipping and sustainable circumpolar communities.
