Minister Aglukkaq Delivers Keynote Address at Northern Lights Conference

January 29, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and Minister for the Arctic Council, delivers a keynote speech at the Northern Lights 2014 Conference and Trade Show.

Minister Aglukkaq reiterated that the Government of Canada is committed to supporting the North in realizing its true economic potential and to working with Northerners to maximize the tremendous economic opportunities throughout the region.

Minister Aglukkaq highlighted the Arctic Council’s creation of the Arctic Economic Council, a flagship initiative of Canada’s Arctic Council chairmanship.

The Arctic Economic Council will foster business development and inform the work of the Arctic Council.

“Businesses play an important role in building a sustainable and vibrant future for the North,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “The Arctic Economic Council will be the conduit between the Arctic Council and the world of circumpolar business.”
