Minister Yelich Visits Canadian International School of Beijing

February 27, 2014 - Beijing, China - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), visits the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB), one of the leading international schools in Beijing. The CISB offers an internationally recognized Canadian curriculum, accredited by the New Brunswick Department of Education. Ten percent of the school’s students are Canadian, the rest are from all over the world and represent 60 nationalities.

There are nearly 70 accredited Canadian schools in China, serving more than 20,000 students.

According to a study by Roslyn Kunin and Associates, international students contributed over $8 billion to the Canadian economy in 2010. In 2012, there were over 265,000 international students, including 84,000 from China, studying in Canada.

China has been identified as a priority education market under Canada's International Education Strategy, a key element of the Global Markets Action Plan.

Minister Yelich is visiting Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Beijing from February 23 to 27, 2014, to highlight Canada and China’s strong and growing commercial and people-to-people ties.
