Minister Fast Meets Portuguese President

March 1, 2014 - Toronto - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, meets with Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of Portugal. President Cavaco is in Canada on February 27 and 28, 2014, with Rui Machete, Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, and a 50-person business delegation to explore new ways to deepen the Canada-Portugal commercial relationship.

Minister Fast and President Cavaco discussed how a free trade agreement between Canada and the European Union will help create more opportunities, jobs and prosperity through increased trade and investment in Canada and throughout the European Union, including Portugal.

They also discussed how Canadian and Portuguese companies can work together in partnerships in other countries, especially Angola, Mozambique and Brazil.

In 2013, the value of two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Portugal totalled $611.8 million, up 40.8 percent from 2012.
