Minister Fast and MP Wai Young meet with Canadian Trade Mission Delegates

May 19, 2014 - Shanghai, China - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, meets with the Canadian delegation joining him in the sustainable technologies trade mission he is leading in China. Deepening Canada’s trade and investment ties in large, dynamic and fast-growing economies around the world is a priority for the Government of Canada.

Minister Fast told the delegates that sector-focused trade missions are part of the government’s commitment to supporting Canadian workers and businesses and especially to helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) explore new opportunities to export.

Sustainable technologies is one of the sectors identified under Canada's Global Market Action Plan and in the Canada-China Economic Complementarities Study published in August 2012, and Canada and China have agreed to make the sector one of the top priorities for collaboration. A number of Canadian companies offer innovative technologies in this sector, including many of the SMEs represented on the trade mission.

Minister Fast is visiting Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong from May 18 to 24, 2014, to deepen Canada’s commercial relationships with China.
