Minister Fast Meets with Senior Official in Jiangsu Province

May 21, 2014 - Nanjing, China - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, meets with Li Xueyong, Governor of Jiangsu province, to discuss Canada and China’s deepening commercial and academic ties.

Minister Fast emphasized the important role of the education sector in Canada-China bilateral relations and highlighted how China is a priority market under Canada’s new International Education Strategy. Universities in Nanjing maintain strong relationships with Canadian institutions such as the University of Waterloo, the University of British Columbia and Western University.

As one of the largest cities in the Yangtze River Delta, Nanjing is the political, economic and cultural centre of Jiangsu, which is the Chinese province with the highest GDP per capita and the second-highest total GDP, after Guangdong province.

Minister Fast is leading a trade mission to Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong from May 18 to 24, 2014, to deepen Canada’s commercial relationships with China.
