Minister Fast Congratulates Canadian Animation Company on Partnership with Philippine College

July 21, 2014 - Manila, Philippines - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, (back left) tours the new Skills Development Center for Animation at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde with Benjamin Marsigan, Jr., the college’s Chairperson of Animation.

The Skills Development Center will serve as an incubator for animation projects. Using animation software developed by Montréal’s Toon Boom Animation Inc., the Center will nurture Philippine talent in animation and digital media and is expected to play an important role in reviving the animation sector in the Philippines.

Canada’s expertise in animation and digital media highlights its innovation and creativity in the information and communications technology sector. Between 2008 and 2012, over 5,200 Filipino students benefited from Canadian expertise in a variety of sectors and industries by studying in Canada.

Minister Fast is leading a trade mission to the Philippines on July 21 and 22, 2014, focusing on opportunities in the agriculture, defence, information and communications technologies and sustainable technologies sectors, to promote greater trade, job creation and prosperity both at home and abroad.
