Minister Fast Hosts Extractive-Sector Round Table with Canadian Companies in Colombia

August 12, 2014 - Bogotá, Colombia - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, meets representatives of Canadian-owned oil, gas and mining companies with operations in Colombia.

In his remarks, Minister Fast noted that Canada helps to foster and promote sustainable and inclusive development and responsive business practices in countries where Canadian extractive sector companies operate. Canadian extractive companies lead the world in responsible mining practices.

Canada has a significant presence in Colombia’s oil and gas and mining sectors, with 51 publicly traded Canadian extractive industry companies operating there. In 2013, Canadian oil and gas operators had a 36-percent share of Colombia’s total gross oil production.

Minister Fast is leading a six-day trade mission to Colombia and Peru, both priority markets under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP) from August 10 to 15, 2014. The mission delegates include representatives of Canadian companies in the mining, oil and gas, and defence and security sectors, all priority sectors under the GMAP.
