August 13, 2014 - Lima, Peru - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, meets with Pedro Cateriano Bellido, Peru’s Minister of Defence, to strengthen Canada and Peru’s growing defence relationship.
Minister Fast was joined by Martin Zablocki, President and CEO of the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC). The CCC and Peru’s Ministry of Defence signed a memorandum of understanding in May 2013 to further facilitate government-to-government sales of goods and services from Canada to Peru. Since December 2013, the value of new contracts has exceeded $75 million. Under this agreement, the CCC has sold laboratory equipment, supplied by Festo-Lab-Volt, to equip Peru’s new Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Público de las Fuerzas Armadas (armed forces institute of technology), as well as 32 light armoured vehicles, supplied by General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada.
Canadian companies provide state-of-the-art products, technologies and services and are interested in being long-term partners with the Government of Peru. The CCC is one of the many tools the Government of Canada provides to support Canadian companies exploring new markets abroad.
Minister Fast is leading a six-day trade mission to Colombia and Peru, both priority countries under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP), from August 10 to 15, 2014. The mission delegates include representatives of Canadian companies in the mining, oil and gas, and defence and security sectors, all priority sectors under GMAP.
