August 15, 2014 - Lima, Peru - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, visits the Golder Associates laboratory to learn more about how Canadian expertise is helping mining companies be more efficient and environmentally responsible.

Golder’s state-of-the-art facility provides technical analysis services for tailings, soil, concrete and rock mechanics—vital information in mining project design. Golder established its Peruvian operations in 1997 to work with clients in the mining, oil and gas, energy and infrastructure industries. The company’s Peruvian workforce has grown from five employees to nearly 400 and includes engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, other technical personnel and business operations staff. It has been recognized as one of Peru’s top companies to work for.

Canadian firms are leading players in the mining sector in Peru, with 82 publicly listed mining companies active in Peru.

Minister Fast is leading a six-day trade mission to Colombia and Peru, both priority markets under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP), from August 10 to 15, 2014. The mission includes 19 organizations representing Canadian companies in three GMAP priority sectors: mining, oil and gas, and defence and security.
