Statement by Minister Paradis: Pakistan Violence
October 8, 2013
Canada condemns the senseless violence that killed two people yesterday near a polio vaccination team working to save lives in Pakistan.
Canada calls upon the Pakistani government, as well as religious and community leaders, to ensure safe and unhindered access for humanitarian and development personnel who are providing critical assistance to the Pakistani people.
There are no excuses for such senseless attacks against health workers and those who benefit from their assistance. Canada is committed to supporting the global eradication of polio, something that requires the dedication of humanitarian workers around the world.
On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my sincere gratitude to those killed yesterday and my heartfelt condolences to their families.
Minister of International Development
