Minister of State Valcourt Shares his Vision for La Francophonie

Minister of State Valcourt today delivered a speech to the Group of Heads of Francophone Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Ottawa

November 14, 2011 - Ottawa - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (Francophonie), today delivered a speech to the Group of Heads of Francophone Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Ottawa, composed of 45 ambassadors of member states of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Minister of State Valcourt emphasized the need for La Francophonie to continually renew itself if it is to respond and adapt to today’s challenges. In particular, he discussed the global economy and the fundamental values of the Canadian government, including tolerance, respect for human rights and freedom of religion. In addition, the meeting afforded Minister of State Valcourt the opportunity to announce his intention to add a national economic dimension to Canada’s participation in the international Francophonie.

Minister of State Valcourt took the opportunity to invite the Group of Heads of Francophone Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Ottawa to the World Acadian Congress in 2014.

The Group of Heads of Francophone Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Ottawa has been meeting regularly since its inception in 2009. The Group’s objective is to confer within Ottawa’s francophone diplomatic community on issues affecting La Francophonie.
