October 11, 2012 - Kinshasa - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Associate Minister of National Defence and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie), represents Canada at the 28th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie, in Kinshasa.
Participants debated environmental and economic issues. They also gave their opinions on the Kinshasa Declaration, which focuses on human rights and good, democratic governance. The text of the Declaration will be submitted for approval at the 14th Summit of La Francophonie, to take place October 12 to 14.
This is Minister Valcourt’s second visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo. He first visited Africa in June 2012.
