Ambassador Bennett Meets with Kazakhstani Ambassador-at-Large
March 18, 2013 - Astana - Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador of Religious Freedom, meets with Usen Suleimen, Ambassador-at-Large of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a lunch hosted by Canadian ambassador Stephen Millar, Canada’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, at the Canadian embassy in Astana. Ambassadors Bennett and Suleiman had a separate, bilateral discussion involving human rights issues at a meeting later the same day at Kazakhstan’s foreign ministry. Ambassador Bennett had occasion during these meetings to raise the issues confronting Jehovah’s Witnesses and Ahmadiyya Muslims in Kazakhstan; both groups face restrictions on their freedom of religion, including freedom of worship.
