(No. 185 - June 10, 2010 - 3:10 p.m. ET) Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Mozambique, Angola, Botswana and Namibia from May 14 to 25, 2010.
“Africa is an important partner for Canada,” said Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai. “We will continue our efforts to help strengthen governance, institutions, accountability and civil society in the continent.”
During his visit, the Parliamentary Secretary met with key business leaders and government officials in the four countries to encourage free and open trade with Canada in a variety of sectors. He also discussed the possibility of developing new partnerships in education.
Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai underlined Canada’s commitment to supporting democratic development, as well as economic growth, across the continent. In this context, he met with officials from the Southern African Development Community to discuss the current situations in Zimbabwe and Madagascar.
