(No. 340 - November 10, 2009 - 5 p.m. EST) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today issued the following statement expressing concern over the buildup of tensions between Venezuela and Colombia:
“Canada is very concerned over the current tensions in Venezuela-Colombia relations. The use of unnecessary rhetoric only serves to exacerbate matters. It fails to illuminate, but rather confuses the situation. I urge the governments of Venezuela and Colombia to engage in constructive dialogue.
“Canada will continue to follow developments closely.”
